Superbowl has been a big deal in our house for as long as we’ve lived together. We’re always with friends, either at our house or someone else’s…usually it’s between us and B and L. There are always kids around, there is always way too much food and beer, and it’s always fun. Seriously. I can’t remember a bad Superbowl.
This year, we were torn. By we, I mean J, as he was undecided about where and how he wanted to watch the big game. Had The Bears made it? Who knows what would have happened. But watching the playoffs with N and R (Packer fans) made J decide he was up for a small hang, and a plan was born.
Truthfully, for me, I like our small, football hangs. We had a gigantic party one year, and I’m fairly certain we were finding BBQ sauce on the furniture for at least a year. And since we might be/hopefully/could be moving soon, and because J got a gigantic TV for his 40th, we decided our small hang would take place out our house.
One rule. Potluck city baby. I’ve got too much going on to cook a full party, and all of our good friends (mind you there are only 3 couples and 3 kids) are amazing cooks in one way or another. N and R are bringing their world-famous tarts, L and B are making their famous pizzas. P and N (I know, new peeps, right?) are making something amazing, and us? We’re making Breakfast Stout BBQ Meatballs and Lamb Hanky Pankys, and of course, restocking the Beer Fridge.
I can’t begin to explain the Hanky Panky, so I’ll likely force J to guest post this week on the brilliance he whips up in the kitchen. But here’s my vote. Make these meatballs, buy or make some BBQ sauce, and let her rip. These can feed a crowd, take very little time, and you’ll be happy with the almost wing like sense while still eating something relatively non-threatening.
I’m also making my killer salted chocolate chip cookies, using the amazing sea salt they brought me from France, because N and R have somehow never indulged. They’re going to hate me after. Hell, I’m going to hate me after, but that’s what the kids are for! They can take them home and mow all week long…
Tell me. Are you wearing Green and Yellow or Black and Gold today? And more importantly, what’s your kitchen smell like right now?
