I’m trying really hard to ignore the impending holiday season. This is made more difficult by the early, accidental snowfall, and the fact that I spent time last night, in front of the fireplace, with a glass of wine, wrapping presents for my in-laws and our early Christmas this week. And the Christmas beers coming into my inventory weekly. Oh, and really Macy’s? Christmas music already? Come on now…
Anyway, it has me thinking about good gift ideas. Namely food, drink, and cheap gift ideas. It started me thinking about the real point of gift giving, at least the way I’d like to think about it. I’ve always been happier giving than getting…to some degree. Let’s not go crazy here.
What’s great about giving a gift is knowing that I’m likely giving something to someone that they wouldn’t get themselves. The Microplane I bought L, knowing she’d never get one herself. Dropping off food for a new mom so that they don’t need to cook, just one night. Or sharing fresh-baked cookies just because you can. That, to me, is the perfect core of gift giving, and probably why the holidays can sometimes make me a little batty.
So, with that, I think an Eat it. Drink it. Gift Guide is in order…what do you think? I’m chock full of ideas of easy, price-friendly, non-product placement ideas.
