It’s been a rough day here in the life o’ me. Tis all good, of course, but between headaches, body aches, impending holidays and decisions that feel slightly life altering, I’m a bit nuts.
So as I sit here, massaging my wrecked knees and trying to contemplate the meaning of life over a good, perfectly temped Dark Horse Too Cream Stout, I realized that my next Holiday Gift Guide Item is actually something that belongs in both the kitchen and the bathroom!
Now before you start commenting about how particularly gross this sounds, let me explain. Last spring, in a particularly fun bout of health magazine reading, I purchased coconut oil from the health food store. According to lots of studies, cooking with coconut oil imparts some seriously good fats, and the health benefits are apparently outstanding. Needless to say, the large sized jar of the solid oil sat on my counter for about 4 months before I even really acknowledged it.
Until one day, when I realized I was out of body lotion on a particularly sun kissed and dry skinned day. And then I realized that I’d also read that said coconut oil was a fantastic moisturizer. And on that day, my skin care routine changed forever.
Using the coconut oil as a moisturizer proved a bit confusing at first, as it is a solid that liquifies with heat (such as the heat from your hands) but definitely flakes off a bit as you’re using it. However, when I figured out the proper amount to use on my skin, clearly more than I thought I needed, I have found that it has made my skin so much more lovingly soft than any body butter I’d ever used. And being all natural, all organic, and literally, made of nothing but ONE thing makes it that much more delightful in a paraben-obsessed beauty industry.
If you want this to be an even better gift for a potion loving friend, go all out and scrape the solid oil into a beautiful jar, wrapped with a gorgeous something or other and a note on usage.
Hey, if they want, they can always double duty it and use it for the next batch of cookies, too.
